Inside Line Promotions – PARK CITY, Kan. (March 31, 2025) – Kaleb Johnson made his first sprint car start of the season last weekend with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
The Team DGRD driver kicked off the Sooner State Showdown at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla., on Friday by qualifying 13th quickest. A sixth-place result in his heat race locked him into the main event.
“We qualified good,” he said. “In the heat race, I think starting on the inside row didn’t help at all. The outside, with how the track was, was the preferred lane so we lost a position. It was good to make the feature though. In the feature, we were good the first five to eight laps. I moved up a couple of spots. As the track wore out and got slick, it got a lot tougher. We were good early in the night, but finding grip when it gets slick is where we can improve.”
Johnson ended with a 20th-place result.
He ventured to 81 Speedway on Saturday for the Wichita Sprint Car Showdown. Johnson timed in 14th quickest and placed eighth in a heat race. He was slated to start on the pole of the Last Chance Showdown, but the remainder of the World of Outlaws program was postponed because of the wind.
“We unloaded with some decent speed and qualified all right,” he said. “I made a mistake and should have tried to float the middle in turns one and two instead of ripping the top. Then I didn’t get a good start in the heat race. A couple of cars biked up and I got out of the throttle. I watched a couple of guys go by me and that put us behind. The results weren’t great for the weekend, but I feel a lot better after getting some laps.”
Johnson plans to compete this Friday and Saturday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, during the 410 Clash with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Series. He earned a career-best eighth-place result during his most recent visit to the track last season.
“Since we’ve raced there a couple of times it gives us confidence going into this weekend,” he said. “Hopefully the weather holds off and we can improve on how everything went for us last weekend.”
