Kaleb Johnson Produces Top-Five Outing at Huset’s Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (July 10, 2023) – Kaleb Johnson earned his fifth top-five finish of the season on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway.

The night began with Johnson qualifying 10th quickest around the high-banked oval.

“I feel we didn’t qualify the greatest,” he said. “I probably didn’t have the right gear in with how heavy the track was so we qualified 10th.”

That lined Johnson up on the pole for a heat race, which he won to garner enough points to advance into the feature redraw.

“Heat race points are so crucial,” he said. “I was lucky enough to start on the front row. I knew I had to get a good start. I led the whole thing and we made the redraw, which we haven’t been able to do very often this year at Huset’s.”

Johnson pulled the No. 4 to start the A Main on the outside of the second row.

“I fell back the first part of the race,” he said. “I tried to run the top in turns one and two a couple of times and jumped the cushion. I hung in there and a couple of cars fell out to move us up so we were able to hang on to a top five.

“The competition at Huset’s is pretty cutthroat this year. I’d say it’s more competitive than it has been in previous years. To salvage a top five against that competition is good and hopefully a move in the right direction.”

Johnson is aiming for a two-race weekend with a 360ci winged sprint car show up next this Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, before he returns to Huset’s Speedway on Sunday.
