Inside Line Promotions – SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Sept. 30, 2019) – A challenging season didn’t keep Kaleb Johnson from showing improvement and establishing new standards in his racing career.

“Our season didn’t go as well as we hoped,” said Johnson, who battled mechanical problems throughout the year in both his 305ci and 360ci sprint cars. “But that stuff happens. We had some good moments along with a few bad ones. But bad moments only make our team stronger. I’m proud of how we were able to overcome a lot of adversity. It makes me look forward to next year.”

Highlighting Johnson’s season was a top-five finish at the largest and most prestigious 305 sprint race of the year – the IMCA RaceSaver Nationals hosted by Eagle Raceway in Eagle, Neb.

“Finishing fourth at the 305 Nationals was definitely one of the best racing moments of the year for us,” Johnson said in reference to the four-day event that drew around 100 competitors.

While the number of 360 races Johnson planned to compete in was drastically reduced because of engine woes, he still showed marked improvement in most of the races he was able to compete in without mechanical problems.

“We were proud to make our A Main on our preliminary night at the Knoxville 360 Nationals,” he said. “That was particularly satisfying because of our lack of experience there and that we didn’t plan to race there until we were able to put something together just a couple of days before.”

Johnson also showed speed in many of the Midwest Power Series races that he was able to compete in without incident.

“We were more competitive in most of our 360 races,” he said. “We had a couple of top fives against some strong competition.”

A scheduled doubleheader last weekend at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, was canceled because of rain, fittingly capping Johnson’s racing season. Now he’s shifted gears and is excited to move forward with his sights on 2020.

“We’re not ready to announce anything about next year yet,” he said. “We hope to give updates regarding next season in the coming months.

“It was cool to see our team grow and not give up. Probably 80-to-90 percent of our issues were beyond our control, but I think they made us better. It makes me feel good looking forward to next after what we’ve been through this year.”
