Inside Line Promotions – JACKSON, Minn. (June 13, 2019) – Mechanical problems thwarted a promising night – and a possible win – for Kaleb Johnson last Friday night in the 305ci winged sprint car class at Jackson Motorplex.

Johnson’s evening began well with a convincing heat race victory after starting second.

“We were fortunate to start on the front row,” he said. “We were able to take the lead on the first lap and keep it the rest of the race.”

Johnson eagerly anticipated the feature, which he started third.

“We kept a pretty close eye on the track and saw that it was starting to get slick,” he said. “We were really looking forward to the feature since that’s the track I like.”

Johnson wasted little time going to the front following the start of the main event.

“We were able to take the lead on about the second or third lap, but the longer we went, the hotter the engine got and I had to eventually pull in,” he said. “The engine had gotten a little warm in the heat race and we changed a couple of things to see if that would help, but it didn’t. So I figured I better pull off and salvage what we could before I did any more damage.”

It was a difficult blow to the team, which had just received bad news regarding their 360ci engine a few days earlier.

“We found out earlier in the week that we hurt our 360 motor pretty bad at Knoxville,” he said. “So at this time we’re not really sure what our 360 racing plans are for the rest of the year. We’ll take it as it goes and see what happens.”

Fortunately, there was some good news for the team this week after they were expecting to be unable to race this weekend.

“At first, we thought our 305 wouldn’t be ready by this weekend and we wouldn’t be able to race,” Johnson said. “But then we learned that it was a different issue than we thought. We’re looking forward to racing at Park Jefferson International Speedway (in Jefferson, S.D.) this Saturday.”
